VeraSun Energy Corporation will again sponsor V.J. speaking in schools in 2008. The positive, overwhelming response from schools in 2007 prompted the alternative fuels based company to again provide the program at no cost to participating schools. Schools in selected locations in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota are eligible for the program. There is an exciting new aspect of the program in 2008. Fifty schools will receive 25 copies of V.J. 's book, "The Richest Man in Town. " In addition, the schools will receive journals which will allow teachers and students to fully explore the many facets of the book. The one-hour talk focuses on the life of Aaron ‘Marty’ Martinson, a 70-year-old man who ran a cash register at Wal-Mart. Marty’s inspiring story captivates people, young and old, with a clear message of happiness found through kindness and respect for others. Smith says, “Marty placed value in the lives of every person who came through his line. He made people feel appreciated. In turn, it helped giving meaning to his life. It was a circular relationship for Marty. ” Smith is honored that VeraSun Energy Corporation recognizes the character education lessons found in Marty’s life and decided to offer this program, at no charge, to the schools. The program is sponsored by VeraSun Energy Corporation through a gift to the South Dakota 4H Foundation in support of the 4H CHARACTER COUNTS program.
